Review of Churches Main Committee

In mid-2005 a group was set up to review the Churches Main Committee’s role and functions, with the following terms of reference:

  1. to examine whether the CMC best reflects the needs of the churches and faith communities in the 21st century;
  2. to consider whether membership should be widened to embrace other faith communities, in particular so as to improve the efficiency of consultation with Government; and
  3. to review the size, operation and composition of the Executive Committee.

The Group was chaired by Peter Bottomley MP. The other members were:

  • Lord Griffiths of Burry Port
  • Harriet Maunsell OBE
